Even though no answer is given, though she seems to be trying, he just smiles slightly and instead holds her tighter to him. His hand slides up and down her back, fingers dancing along her spine, while her arms entwine around his waist so she can hug him back. Dick didn’t know what to say or do. So, he just does what he feels is best, and holds her as tightly as he can while pressing his lips warmly atop her head.

He didn’t remember the last time they had hugged like this…the only time he remembered was the time he had been thinking about his parents deaths when he was younger and she hugged him to her while murmuring softly. A faint smile forms on his lips at the warm memory as his left arm shifts around her waist while his right hand goes up to gently twirl familiar red locks between his fingers.

“It’ll be okay, Babs.” Dicks voice is steady even though he can’t help but be saddened by the way she felt in his arms. “I can’t promise it; however, if you keep going strong then I will also.” Even though he knew that every time they parted a part of him sunk, knowing he could never see her again, and he honestly regrets moving so far away. A grimace forms on his lips at the thought as he nuzzles his nose affectionately against her and smiles. He just couldn’t think of that right now. She was safe here in his arms and nothing bad would ever happen to her with him by her side. “We’ll always be there for another, right? No matter the distance.”

Her eyelids opened slightly in a weary, heavy manner as she hears him speak. She tried to get rid of the horrible lump in her throat that was gradually growing the cynical thoughts lingering and grasping tight onto the cells of her brain. Babs wasn’t sure if the way he was holding her was making her feel better, or just giving her more reasons to not want to let go. Literally, and emotionally.

Say something, you moron. She scolded with a grudging tone in her mind. Forcing a smile to make itself appear, she huffed a bit of strained air from her lips as she rested her cheek on his shoulder. “No matter the distance, huh?” The thought of him being there, not in person, but in heart and soul permitted color back into the skin on her face. However, she was still in a state of solemnness. “You know that I won’t be able to forgive myself if anything—anything else were happen to you. You know that, right?“

She lifted her chin from the side of his shoulder, however her arms were still around his waist; her clutch loosened slightly. Eyes staring up at his, they watched them without a twitch or a change of focus. This was the truth. And she wanted to make sure that he knew.
